The aliens are coming. Or at least they told us they were.
They asked us for just one item: a written document from humanity.
This is the only thing they are going to read before they arrive.
We have no idea what the document should be, so we're asking you.
Should we share a history of humanity? An introduction to your family? A science fiction story? A description of a sunset? A narrative from your life? A joke?
We're not sure (yet), but we'd like your help. We're giving $2,000 USD to the best submission. Second and third place get $250 each.
We're going old school here. You'll have to physically mail in your writing, and it needs to reach us before May 15, 2026.
Up for saving humanity? Enter your email and we will send you the instructions:
Why?
Because the aliens are coming. (Duh.)
Who is judging?
Some very qualified people who we will soon announce :)
How is the writing being judged?
On whether or not we think it is a good piece of writing to send the aliens. This may mean you wrote a beautiful short story. It may mean you wrote something really funny. There are no extra points for writing an ultra-serious explanation of why the aliens should not take over our planet (though you could do that). Write anything as long as you believe it would be a good thing for aliens to read before arriving.
Will these pieces be published anywhere? Perhaps an epic coffee table book?
Yes, we plan to publish our favorite pieces (online, at the minimum). You'll retain credit for your work (more details in the (very!) official terms).
When will the winners be announced?
On June 1st, 2026.
How much does it cost to enter? Is this some big profit scheme?
It costs $0 to enter. Except whatever you pay to mail your writing. So no. Not much profit. For us it's the opposite of profit, actually. We are paying you (if you win).
What if I can't afford to mail it?
Then email us and explain why and we will try to find another solution.
How long does the writing have to be?
It should be under 1,000 words. These aliens don't have all day. Or light year.
What language do submissions need to be in?
English. Fingers crossed the aliens can read it. Imagine if they said they only speak Portuguese.
Why are the aliens coming? And are they mad at us?
We don't know. They didn't say.
Can I use AI?
Well we aren't God. But we will probably be able to tell. And the aliens have faster-than-light travel, so we bet they will be able to detect it too. Use at your own, and perhaps humanity's, risk.
Are there any limits on who can compete?
No, but you can only submit once. You should probably also be 18, which is a thing we have to say for legal reasons. More in the official rules.
Can I join from anywhere in the world?
Yes. But if you join from a country that is not supported by Wise or Revolut or similar (e.g. North Korea, Iran, Cuba, Syria, Belarus, Myanmar, Libya, Venezuela, Zimbabwe), then it may be difficult or impossible for us to get you the money should you win. More in the official rules.
Who made this?
funnest.world people: Jordan (human) and Carter (human) and Taylor (human).
